Chelsea have agreed a deal with Barcelona to sign winger Pedro for a fee of £21m.
The 28-year-old, who was a target for Manchester United, is flying to London to finalise terms on the transfer.
The Spain international is a product of the La Liga club's academy and has scored 99 goals in 326 appearances since his debut in 2008.
He will be Chelsea's second signing in less than a week after the arrival of Ghana defender Baba Rahman.
They are also keen to sign England defender John Stones from Everton, who have already turned down offers of £20m and £26m and, reportedly, a third worth £30m.
Pedro's arrival could result in Colombia winger Juan Cuadrado leaving Chelsea after a disappointing seven months at Stamford Bridge. The Colombia international was signed for £23.3m from Fiorentina in January.
The champions are without a win in their opening two Premier League games for the first time since 1998 after following up their 2-2 draw with Swansea with a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at last season's runners-up Manchester City.
The Blues travel to West Brom on Sunday before a home game against Crystal Palace on 30 August, two days prior to the transfer window closing on 1 September.
Manchester United were interested in Pedro as they look to replace Argentina winger Angel Di Maria, who has joined French champions Paris St-Germain for £44.3m.
Pedro made 50 appearances for Barcelona last season and has won the Champions League three times, including scoring a goal in the 2011 final against United, as well as five La Liga titles
He also won the World Cup and European Championship with Spain in 2010 and 2012 respectively.
He has made three appearances this campaign and came off the bench to score the winner in the 5-4 Uefa Super Cup victory over fellow Spanish side Sevilla.

The Premier League is up and underway already and the other major leagues will soon follow suit. European competitions started way back in July with the playoffs and Super Cups in the various leagues have already been done and dusted.
Barcelona have secured their first trophy of the season by defeating Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup and their superstar Lionel Messi is already underway with two goals for the season. The Argentine added a third to his tally when La Liga champions lost to Athletic Bilbao in the two-legged Spanish Super Cup 5-1.
His alter ego Cristiano Ronaldo will be eager to kickstart his campaign with the La Liga which begins on August 22, but will have some catching up to do by then. But one can definitely count upon the Portuguese skipper to be on the mark from the word ‘go’.
Ronaldo has scored 50 goals and more in the past five seasons and it will take a brave man to bet his money against the 30-year-old repeating that feat in the 2015/16 campaign. The same goes for Messi as well. The only time he failed to cross the 50-goal mark was the injury ravaged 2013/14 season. Even then he managed a more than decent return of 41 goals.
So it’s no wonder that the pair have shared the last seven Ballon d’Or titles between them and in all likelihood will do battle yet again for the year 2015 as well. There’s no denying that the remarkable form of these two football greats have overshadowed other lethal goalscorers in the modern game.
50 goals for the season is inhuman – let’s leave that for Messi and Ronaldo; but who are the others that can shine for their team and score at least 30 goals across all competitions in the 2015/16 season.
Here we take a look at the Top 5 contenders and with the amount of goals that Messi and Ronaldo set up for their teammates, don’t be surprised to find a few Barcelona and Real Madrid players in the lsit.

  1. Luis Suarez

Who better to start off than the Uruguayan, Luis Suarez, who joined Messi and Ronaldo recently in being shortlisted for the UEFA European Player of the Year award. The 28-year-old is one of football's most lethal finishers at present and equally one of the most divisive figures in the game.
Controversies have followed Suarez throughout his career, but there's no denying his supreme talent. The footballing world began to take notice of the South American after his exploits in the 2008/09 season where he scored a remarkable 49 goals from 48 games playing for Dutch side Ajax. He followed it a fine showing at the 2010 World Cup, but the tournament ended in controversial circumstances for Suarez however as he handled a goalbound header from a Ghanian player thus paving the way for Uruguay to reach the semi-finals.
Liverpool signed Suarez during the 2010/11 winter transfer window and though the forward took some time to settle into the rhythm of the English game, he soon became an Anfield fan favourite. He scored in excess of 30 goals during his final two years with the Merseyside club and that is in spite of missing some games due to the ban he picked up for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic during a league game.
Suarez had the same issue after he moved to Barcelona. He picked up a four-month ban from footballing activities for biting Italy's Giorgio Chillieni during the 2014 World Cup which meant Suarez couldn't feature for his new club until late October. Yet again he took some time to get used to his new surroundings with his first goal for the Catalan club coming one month later.
However, he finished the season with 25 goals in 43 appearances and with Barcelona almost certain to feature in the latter stages of all competitions they compete in, Suarez will plenty of have chances to score plenty more. Like Messi, Suarez also opened his account for the 2015/16 season with a goal in the UEFA Super Cup and a look at his career trajectory proves that he's only getting better.

 2. Neymar Jr

He scored 39 goals in 51 appearances last season and Barca coach Luis Enrique opined that Neymar should have been shortlisted for the European Footballer of the Year award in place of Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi himself has stated that “Neymar can be the best in the world” and if there’s one player who can the break the stranglehold Messi and Ronaldo have on the Ballon d’Or, it is Neymar.
He is yet to make his competitive debut for the club this season as he is suffering from mumps.

3. Sergio Aguero

Sergio Aguero - Top 5 players apart form Messi and Ronaldo who can break the 30-goal barrier in the 2015/16 season

Aguero is one of those rare Latin American players who have excelled more in the Premier League than in Spain. He was good at Athletico Madrid no doubt – After all City paid £38 million for his services. But since arriving in England, he has already crossed the goals tally he achieved at Atletico having played less than 70 games than with the Spanish club.
And if his performance against the reigning league champions is anything to go by, Aguero looks up to the task this season as well. Pellegrini has all the confidence in him as well having let go off Edin Dzeko and Stevan Jovetic in the transfer window.

4. Robert Lewandoski

The stats don't lie. Robert Lewandowski may not be the first time that comes to your mind when one talk about the greatest strikers around, but he has been there ad thereabouts the 30 goal mark in the past four seasons. That despite having switched clubs between two of Germany’s most illustrious clubs.
He was top scorer in Poland’s third tier and second tier football leagues in 2006/07 and 2007/08 respectively before moving to first division side Lech Poznan in the summer of 2008. He was the second top scorer in the league in his debut and went one better in the 2009/10 season before moving to Borussia Dortmund.

He was instrumental in one of Borussia’s most successful spells in history as they reached the Champions League final in 2012/13 where they were beaten by rivals Bayern Munich, whom Lewandowski joined a year later.  And despite his apparent problems with Pep Guardiola, he shined for Bayern in his debut season.
He has already opened his account for the 2014/15 season with 2 goals in 3 matches.

5. Karim Benzema

Karim Benzema - Top 5 players apart form Messi and Ronaldo who can break the 30-goal barrier in the 2015/16 season

It’s hard to believe Karim Benzema is just 27 years old and is yet to reach the peak years of his career. Real Madrid fans will be hopeful that the forward can better his more talked about teammates in Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale starting this season.
He is an ever present in the starting line up and is hardly injured. Playing with quality players up front he’s never short of getting quality balls to score from. So it’s a bit surprising to see that he has scored more than 30 goals in a season only once in the past 5 campaigns.

Marcelo lit up Real Madrid’s final friendly of the summer with a stunning individual goal to give his team a 2-1 victory over Galatasaray but Gareth Bale’s substitution five minutes from time was greeted with a smattering of whistles from the Santiago Bernabeu faithful.
The Brazilian full-back’s goal was the highlight of a somewhat flat 90 minutes that brought to a close Madrid’s exhausting pre-season that took them to Australia, China and Norway but supporters were not entirely happy with the display and some took it out on Bale as he left the pitch on 85 minutes.
Playing as a No 10 just behind Jese in attack he had played his part in the victory and had been neither the stand-out performer nor the most anonymous but he was still singled out by some in the Bernabeu when his number came up. Other fans applauded drowning out the jeers but it is clear as he looks to start his third season that he is yet to win over Real’s notoriously fickle following.

Real Madrid opened the scoring after 17 minutes when Nacho headed in a Luka Modric corner. Isco could have doubled the lead but his effort came back off the crossbar.
Real Madrid were dominant without being their usual ruthless selves in front of goal and that was never more evident a minute before the break when Ronaldo missed a chance he would usually have buried. Jese did well to wriggle down the right and pull the ball back for the Portuguese but he took one touch and then got under the ball lifting his shot high over the bar.
Bale had come closer creating an opportunity for himself moments earlier and shooting just over from the edge of the area.
Galatasary had threatened an equaliser through Umut Bulut but he missed after being teed up by Wesley Sneijder.
And in the second half it was to be the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan midfielder who got the Turkish side level with a shot from distance that Keylor Navas could do nothing about. When Sneijder was taken off shortly after his goal the Bernabeu rose as one to applaud a player who Real Madrid supporters never wanted sold and who won the Champions League under Jose Mourinho the season after he was let go.

Ronaldo then thought he had put Los Blancos ahead but was correctly flagged offside as he ran on to Isco’s pass. James Rodriguez came on with 20 minutes left and looked to have been bundled over in the six-yard box when trying to turn in a Ronaldo cross but nothing was given.
Just as it appeared the game would fizzle out into a flat 1-1 draw Marcelo produced as good a goal as Madrid have managed all pre-season. Cutting in from the left he went past three defenders before burying a low left-footed shot into Fernando Muslera’s bottom right corner.
That meant Madrid won the Santiago Bernabeu Trophy. But as the indifferent response to his substitution showed, Bale is yet to win over the Bernabeu.

Manchester United eyeing blockbuster move for Thomas Muller

Manager Louis van Gaal has still not landed his "surprise" Manchester United signing, though rumours of a huge move for Bayern Munich striker Thomas Muller are showing no signs of disappearing.
According to Germany's Sport Bild, United made an €85 million (£60m) offer for Muller last week. Bayern seem determined to hold on to the 25-year-old forward, but United -- who believe they can force Muller into agitating for a move given the World Cup winner's apparent interest in an Old Trafford switch-- are not giving up without a fight.
Muller may be a necessity if Chelsea hijack United's long-winded move for Pedro -- according to the Daily Mail reports,  the Premier League champions want the Barcelona forward, with Roman Abramovich a keen admirer. The paper says United "remain firmly in pole position" for the Spain international, but that Chelsea will go "toe-to-toe" with the Red Devils for his signature.
Let the battle commence.
Memphis Depay scored twice to inspire Manchester United to victory over Club Brugge in their Champions League play-off.
Brugge took a surprise first-leg lead through Michael Carrick's own goal.
But Depay drove in a low strike and brilliantly cut inside and curled in a 25-yard shot to put United ahead.
Brugge defender Brandon Mechele was sent off for two bookings after 80 minutes and Depay crossed for Marouane Fellaini to head in a late third.
The home side looked set to be frustrated in their attempts to add to Depay's double as the Dutchman ballooned a clear chance to claim his hat-trick.
But Fellaini came on as a late substitute for the out-of-sorts Wayne Rooney and finally turned United's superiority into a two-goal cushion going into next Wednesday's return leg. The Belgian was happy to secure the win for his team as he came on to the pitch for the first time on a Man United jersey.

How good was Deepay?

Manchester United forward Memphis Depay

This is the game in which United's £31m summer signing Depay announced himself to the Old Trafford fans - and he did it in some style.
He has been used just behind the main striker at times in his first two games but was in his more preferred left-wing role against Brugge - a move which paid off.
Depay should have completed his hat-trick, the easiest chance of his match, but shot high over the bar after a delightful Rooney back-flick.
"I am very happy for Memphis because a player needs that," said United boss Louis Van Gaal. "I said it was a matter of time and hopefully he shall continue. He is 21 and he has only played two seasons for PSV, I have confidence in him."

With Benteke securing a win for Liverpool on his home debut it sparks the feeling of nolstagia when Liverpool striker were absolutely phenomenal in style and ruthless in front of goal. The like of Milan Baros, Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez are some of the names that come up in this dicussion. Many of the fans would seriously appreciate the prestige of the good old days and would certainly expect the current strikers to portray such skill. We take a look at the top 10 Liverpool strikers in the Engish premier league who played for the Merseyside team.

At his most frustrated last season, Brendan Rodgers was asked what his Liverpool side were lacking. “Someone to put the ball in the net,” he said, with greater sharpness than any of his strikers had managed for most of the season. Then he walked off. In his summer spending, it seems signing Benteke will do ggod for the Mercyside team this season.
Christain Benteke opened his account for Liverpool in his home debut at Anfield although many contested the goal dubbing it controversial. This is in view of the new offside rules introduced in the Epl this season. Benteke has equaled Mario Balotelli's record (ended the previous campaign with 1 league goal) already much to the delight of the Liverpool fans.
The Belgian striker has altered the way Liverpool play their game as they are now more direct and aping Chelsea's strategy last season; not classy football but they get the win. Two games into this campaign, Liverpool are winning ugly but that beats losing and drawing uglier as they did too often a few months ago.

Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, believes Benteke will add more than just goals, remarking how the Belgian’s physical presence is making Liverpool a more robust unit than before. “I thought Christian was a real handful. His hold-up play is outstanding,” said Rodgers.
“He has a wonderful touch for a big guy and can control the game. There was one moment when the ball came into the box and because of his strength and power he got a touch, it dropped and Coutinho got away a shot.
Player Focus: Barkley’s Bright Start Offers Promise to Exciting Season Ahead

Roy Hodgson could not have been happier with what he saw from Everton’s contingent of England players when he left St Mary’s on Saturday afternoon. Not least that John Stones showed no signs of being affected of talk linking him with a move to Chelsea, but in Ross Barkley; he bore witness to a dominant performance that offers promise of great things to come from the starlet this season.

It was England’s U’21 manager Gareth Southgate that was left to rue his decision to omit Barkley from the squad that crashed out of the European Championship group stages earlier this summer and it will be a choice that will be made all the more painful following the Everton midfielder’s bright start to the campaign.

The dilemma that faced Southgate has been well-documented, but Barkley looks to have benefitted from a pre-season free from the stress of football ahead of what is a massive year for a player looking to force his way into Hodgson’s starting XI for next summer's European Championship.

Barkley, in some respects, has already made significant steps in bettering the feats of last season. In just two games, the 21-year-old has already scored as many goals in the Premier League than he managed in the whole of last term (2). Additionally, only two players have gained a higher WhoScored rating than the young Toffees ace (8.26) has so far this season, while only David Silva and Marc Albrighton (both 4) have been directly involved in more goals for their side than Barkley (3).

Without getting carried away after just two games, Barkley, and all those concerned, will be hoping this is just the start. The England international’s performance in Everton’s season curtain-raiser may have been slightly masked by the goal he would later score, but it was in Everton’s comprehensive victory over Southampton that really illustrated Barkley’s best qualities.

Player Focus: Barkley’s Bright Start Offers Promise to Exciting Season Ahead

Despite being used in a number of midfield positions, it is the No. 10 role where Martinez seemingly feels Barkley is best-suited. Indeed, since the ex-Wigan boss was made Everton manager in 2013, Barkley has lined up in more than 67 per cent of his 49 Premier League starts as Everton’s creator-in-chief behind the striker (33).

The manner of Barkley’s performances is not particularly similar to other players plying their trade in the No. 10 role in England’s top-flight. He doesn’t have the low centre of gravity or the deft touch that makes the likes of Silva and Philippe Coutinho so deadly, but it is the way he drives forward with power and purpose that is most eye-catching, and those qualities were on display in abundance against Ronald Koeman’s underwhelming Southampton side.

Player Focus: Barkley’s Bright Start Offers Promise to Exciting Season Ahead

In fact, in the last three seasons, only Romelu Lukaku (137) has been dispossessed more times in the league than Barkley (110) of Everton player. Given the nature of a striker’s role, it’s not unusual that Lukaku has coughed up possession more times whereas, for Barkley, to have sacrificed possession at least 19 more times than the rest of his Everton teammates means he will either need to learn to be smarter on the ball or improve his outlay if he wants to become the No. 10 that his potential promises.

In comparison to the aforementioned No. 10’s, Barkley has actually been dispossessed as many times as Coutinho (110) and on fewer occasions than Silva (135) since breaking onto the scene two years ago.

This isn’t to suggest Barkley is in the same ilk as two of the league’s best technicians, but rather to point out an area in which the England midfielder will be looking to improve this season. Silva and Coutinho can be forgiven for losing the ball on their meandering runs as, between the two of them, they have had a direct hand in 62 goals for their club's. Barkley, on the other hand, has been directly involved in 13 Everton goals (10 goals + 3 assists) over that same period.

Pedro has agreed personal terms with Manchester United ahead of a proposed move from Barcelona, according to Guillem Balague.
The 28-year-old Spain international is believed to have made his mind up over a move to Old Trafford, despite interest from Manchester City.
Pedro is still waiting for the clubs to agree on a transfer fee, and it is understood Barcelona will not budge from the £21.2m release clause that is written into the player's contract.
"Ed Woodward, the Manchester United chief executive, has been in Barcelona today, speaking to the club and the word is that a deal will be done this week one way or another," Sky Sports' Spanish football expert Balague told Revista de La Liga.
"I understand a deal between the player and United is already in place and all that is left is for United to put the €30m on the table. They are just negotiating how they are going to pay it, with installments or an amount up-front.
"They are very close. I'm not sure whether Barcelona will try one last time with Pedro and say 'don't go', but it seems his mind is already made up."
