Uefa Super Cup winners in the last decade

The Super cup is UEFA's season campaign opener which pits together winners of the Champions league against Europa league winners. This 2015\16 season is an all Spanish affair with both team hoping to kick start their European campaign to a great start. Barcelona take on Sevilla for the coveted cup and so begins the curtain raiser for Europe's most coveted cups. Barcelona are four tome champs while Sevilla have only one cup to their name- truly a David and Goliath story.

We take a look at Uefa Super Cups history and the list of Super Cup previous winners in the last decade:

2005: Liverpool vs CSKA Moscow

2005: Cissé secures hat-trick for Liverpool

After a thrilling Champions league clash agaisnt AC Milan in the previous season, Liverpool went on to win the Uefa Super Cup in Monaco. This time Djibril Cisse was the player to inspire the Liverpool side to a comeback victory after coming oof the bench as a substitute.  Daniel Carvalho gave CSKA the lead when he slotted past keeper Pepe Reina.

2006: Sevilla vs Barcelona

Sevilla FC became the third Spanish side to win the UEFA Super Cup as first-half goals from Renato and Frédéric Kanouté, together with a late penalty from substitute Enzo Maresca, earned a fine victory in the all-Iberian affair against FC Barcelona in Monaco.

2007: AC Milan vs Sevilla

AC Milan 3-1 Sevilla FC
(Inzaghi 54, Jankulovski 61, Kaká 86; Renato 13)
The UEFA Super Cup in Monaco on 31 August raised the curtain on the 2007/08 European season, but the death of Sevilla FC's Antonio Puerta just three days before the big game cast a horrible shadow over what was supposed to be a celebration.
UEFA Cup holders Sevilla had been challenging to become only the second club to win two successive Super Cups as they prepared to take on AC Milan, but the death of midfielder Puerta of a heart attack during a league game made such sporting concerns seem irrelevant.

2008: Zenit St Petersburg vs Manchester United

Manchester United FC 1-2 FC Zenit St. Petersburg
(Vidić 73; Pogrebnyak 44, Danny 59)
FC Zenit St. Petersburg produced a fine display of passing football to claim the UEFA Super Cup for the first time, a goal in each half from Pavel Pogrebnyak and debutant Danny securing victory against Manchester United FC in Monaco.
It had been a memorable few months for Russian football, Zenit's UEFA Cup triumph in May preceding the national side's run to the UEFA EURO 2008 semi-finals, and the St Petersburg club wrote another proud chapter in their history in Monte Carlo, both goals coming from players with particular motivation to shine.

2009: Barclona vs Shakatar Donetsk

FC Barcelona 1-0 FC Shakhtar Donetsk,
(Pedro 115)
2009: Pedro pounces to add to Barça glory
A 115th-minute goal from substitute Pedro Rodríguez ended FC Shakhtar Donetsk's resistance and gave FC Barcelona a third UEFA Super Cup triumph in Monaco.
Spain's first treble winners in 2008/09, Barcelona started the new campaign as they ended the old by collecting silverware with the previous weekend's domestic Super Cup victory. Yet Josep Guardiola's team struggled to unpick a well-drilled Shakhtar defence despite enjoying the vast majority of the possession.

2010: Atletico Madrid vs Internazionale

FC Internazionale Milano 0-2 Club Atlético de Madrid
(Reyes 62, Agüero 83)

Club Atlético de Madrid defended the honour of the new UEFA Europa League with aplomb as the first winners of the rebranded competition beat FC Internazionale Milano 2-0 to lift the UEFA Super Cup at the Stade Louis II in Monaco.
It was the first time either team had taken part in the fixture and it was Atlético who triumphed against the UEFA Champions League winners, José Antonio Reyes and Sergio Agüero making the difference with second-half strikes.

2011: Barcelona vs FC Porto

FC Barcelona 2-0 FC Porto
(Messi 39, Fàbregas 89)

Barcelona added yet another trophy to their roll of honour under Josep Guardiola, their second win in three years and fourth overall, as they became the first club to take part eight times.

2012: Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea

Chelsea FC 1-4 Club Atlético de Madrid
(Cahill 75; Falcao 6, 19, 45, Miranda 60)

2012: Falcao blows Chelsea away
European champions Chelsea FC had no answer to the brilliance of Falcao after the Colombian striker hit a superb hat-trick to help Club Atlético de Madrid to a second UEFA Super Cup in three years in the final edition of the game in Monaco.
Chelsea were in dreamland three months earlier as they won the European Cup for the first time, but could not follow up with a second piece of continental silverware after Falcao struck a treble before half-time in the principality.

 2013: Bayern Munich vs Chelsea

FC Bayern München 2-2 Chelsea FC (aet, Bayern win 5-4 on pens)
(Ribéry 47, Javi Martínez 120+1; Torres 8, Hazard 93)

FC Bayern München won the first UEFA Super Cup to be held outside of Monaco in 15 years with a 5-4 penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea FC following a 2-2 draw at Prague's Stadion Eden.

2014: Real Madrid vs Sevilla

Real Madrid CF 2-0 Sevilla FC
(Ronaldo 30 49)
Cristiano Ronaldo's two goals earned Real Madrid CF victory in Cardiff against Sevilla FC.
A UEFA Super Cup record 30,854 crowd were present at the Cardiff City Stadium as Ronaldo, who had set a UEFA Champions League scoring record in 2013/14, picked up where he had left off. It was Madrid's second UEFA Super Cup, like in the UEFA Champions League ending a 12-year wait.
