With David de Gea's mooted move to Real Madrid locked in an impasse over the Spanish club's refusal to meet United's valuation for the player or include centre-back Sergio Ramos as part of the deal, British media reports suggest that United now expect the Spaniard to remain at the club this season.United boss Louis van Gaal left the Spaniard out of his matchday squad for the opening-day win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, opting instead to hand Sergio Romero his debut. Neverthless, the Dutchman insisted after the match that he wants De Gea to stay.

Van Gaal has named De Gea in the squad for the two-leg Champions League final knockout round against Bruges, the opening game of which is next week. It is highly unlikely that Madrid will be willing to buy the keeper if they can't use him in this season's Uefa campaign. This is a bold tactical move that Manchester United are fronting to fend off Madrid from taking the talented keeper. The choice to go through with the transfer will know lie on David de Gea if he chooses to play for the team in Uefa.
