Pre-season is now in full swing so in this series of articles we review each friendly match and offer insight as to bargain players, team form, and who’s hot and who’s not. This is the final part of an article that covers the friendlies of 25th July – 28th July, and we cover two games for Watford, highlight Kozak’s impressive form, and take a look at a Newcastle side that is still yet to take shape under new boss McClaren.

25th July Watford 1–0 Dundee United

Watford XI (4-4-2): Gomes, Nyom, Prodl, Cathcart, Holebas, Jurado, Behrami, Capoue, Anya, Ighalo, Deeney
Goalscorer: Deeney
The first chance of the game came in the 18th minute when Anya found Watford’s new signing Jurado at the back post but his effort went wide. 5 minutes later Jurado’s pass found Anya whose cross found Ighalo but his shot was well saved by Dundee’s keeper. 2 minutes later Watford skipper Troy Deeney’s cross picked out Jurado who unselfishly nodded the ball down to Ighalo, but his shot went over from 8 yards. The game had become dull and boring but on the brink of half time Ighalo forced another good save out of Dundee’s keeper.
Jurado had looked lively and the majority of chances in the first half went his way, but 8 minutes into the second half he turned provider as his cross found the skipper Troy Deeney who headed the ball powerfully into the back of the net.
